esplanade in NiceNice has a total of 19 museums and galleries and 32 listed historical monuments - which is second only to Paris.

The main attractions here include the Cours Saleya Flower Market, Matisse Museum, Roman ruins and the Russian Cathedral and more.

The heart of the old town is behind the seafront, along Cours Saleya where there is a daily market selling fruit, vegetables and flowers, and antiques on Mondays. To the north is the 17th-century baroque Cathédrale de Ste-Réparate (place Rossetti), with an 18th-century bell tower and glossy ceramic-tile dome. To the north-east is the Palais Lascaris which is a treasure trove of seventeenth and eighteenth century furniture and paintings.

You can hire a car from Nice Airport and head to the west when Nice takes on a very different look with its 18th and 19th century stucco villas, neo-classical hotels and beautiful garden squares with fountains.
