Flight times are quoted as one hour and 45 mins and in my experience of flying Stansted to Montpellier with Ryanair, their flights usually arrive slightly early. You can also fly from Gatwick to Montpellier with Easyjet.
Montpellier airport is only about 10-15 mins from the centre of Montpellier and only a few minutes from the A9 motorway.
