Perpignan Information
There are some fabulous beaches a short distance from Perpignan. Canet Plage is one of the jewels of the Catalan coast and is the favourite seaside resort for people living and staying in the city. It has a long sea front esplanade where street vendors set up their stalls at nightfall to try and tempt you to spend your money after a relaxing day and a few drinks.
There is a busy yachting harbour and excellent water sports facilities including sailing, diving, water skiing, jet skiing and windsurfing. Outdoor activities Canet Plage include beach clubs, an Olympic swimming pool, tennis courts, a riding centre and cycle trails. There is Sea World Aquarium aquarium with over 300 species of fish and sea mammals from five continents.
Leucate Plage is just north of Perpignan on the main N9 motorway which you turn off to the right on to the D83 and follow the signpost to Port Bacares. After 9 kilometres you will reach Port Leucate and the beach. It has one kilometre of fine golden sand with calm waters and a shore which shelves gently into the sea making it a safe place to bathe and popular with families.
Three naturist resorts share the coastline, but the beach is open to all and there is
plenty of space for first time and lifelong nudists alike.
Cap d’Agde is a purpose built resort most notable as the home of France’s largest naturist beach. The whole of this coast has long stretches of sand all the way to La Grand Motte just beyond Montpellier down to Argelés. It has some of the highest temperatures in France as there is very little shade or shelter from either sun or wind.
All the beaches around Perpignan are excellent, offering acres of sand in Argelés-sur-Mer or the rocky coastline at Collioure which is a small beach town virtually undiscovered by tourists, where you can dive along a special underwater trail. The whole coast is host to water sports at all levels of ability, with the serious surfers heading for St Cyprien just above Argelés.
