Golf In Nimes
The Golf de Nîmes Vacquerolles is just a five minute drive from the Nimes auto route A9 (exit Nimes Ouest then Le Vigan-Sauve). It is a relatively new 18 hole 6260 metres par 73 course which opened in 1990 running up a valley and over steeply wooded hills.
The course is just outside Nimes and 40km northeast of Montpellier. It is situated in a small valley where there are houses on one side and stunning wilderness on the other. The friendly and helpful staff at Golf de Nimes are multilingual speaking French, Engslish and Swedish.
The driving range is wide and very long - even for the long hitters. There are two chipping nets and a huge putting green of excellent quality.
The 1st hole is a small par 5 (509m) with a dogleg to the left some 200 metres from the tee. There are some bushes and the stream that runs along the fairway to the greens which are quite sloped on this course, but not too hard to read.
The 7th hole is a par 3 (153m) and very downhill and if there is a headwind you will have trouble keeping the ball down. As you tee off looks as though you are playing down an alley of trees. The 18th is a superb finishing hole with a lot of challenges. It is a par 4 (353m) with a slight dogleg to the right and a little bit downhill.
This entire course is very scenic with a stream that passes through several holes crossing the course more than once. The bunkers are well placed and are often in play both on the fairways and greens. Between the first and second fairway there lives a species of sheep that is almost extinct.
The restaurant at Golf de Nimes offers some fine French cuisine at reasonable prices. The pro shop is a good size and is well equipped with everything a golfer needs. For details on green fees and to make a reservation click on www.golfnimescampagne.fr or telephone +33 4 66 23 33 33.
