October averages around 62ºF while leading into December it can drop to 48ºF. Early October is often the best time of the year in France with the evenings still warm but not too hot, the restaurants and bars less crowded and you can enjoy the wine festivals that are all held then. You can swim in the sea certainly until the end of October.

All year round on the sunny days you can have your lunch outside or enjoy a coffee on the Place de la Comédie. The colder days are still enjoyable with deep blue skies and fantastic light. The only drawbacks are the northerly winds (Mistral) that blow down the Rhone Valley, as they can change a beautiful winter’s day to a cold and blustery one.

If you like skiing then the resorts in the Cevennes Mountains and Pyrenees are very close by.
