Villas In Montpellier
Prices in Montpellier have risen higher than almost anywhere else in the Languedoc, but are still cheaper than the Côte D'Azur in the South of France. The good news is that prices have now stabilised and if you are willing to drive a hard bargain you can often reduce the asking price quite considerably as it is likely that the seller brought the property before the boom and is making a handsome profit anyway.
Prices of villas start in Montpellier at around the € 250,000 for 200 square metre two or three bedroom property with good sized gardens. The most attractive villas start at over € 300,000, and if you can afford € 400,000 plus you will be able to acquire something quite spacious in a prime location with a swimming pool and large garden. Villas in the centre of town are very rare with most of them being found in the suburbs. Here you will find properties ranging from around €250,000 for a smallish family town house, to over a million euros for a large modern villa with garden and swimming pool.
Montpellier is a beautiful city to live. The very attractive Antigone Estate near La Place de Comedie is stunning architecturally with large open spaces, squares, fountains, and magnificent buildings built in a modern neo classical style.
The most dynamic economic city in the Languedoc region, Montpellier is a huge growth area where employment rose by 17% in the 1990s (compared to 4% for Nimes). It is a university town with students making up 14% of the total population and a centre of excellence for learning and home to numerous rapid growth, hi tech industries.
If you are thinking of buying a villa and living here there is no shortage of entertainment as the city hosts a full programme of events, exhibitions, cinema and music festivals. In 1997 it was named as the most sporting of all the cities in France.
Montpellier has its own airport which is just a fifteen minute drive from the centre of town. British Airways and Ryanair operate daily flights to the UK, and with a flying time of two hours it means that you can purchase a villa in Montpellier to live in and commute if necessary or just for use as a holiday home.
