Marseille Climate
The climate of Marseille is not typical of the Mediterranean with the lowest rainfall and highest temperatures found in the hot, dry summer months. Rainfall reaches its peak in spring and autumn rather than in winter. During the winter months Marseille suffers the Mistral which is dry, cold northwest wind which blows down the Rhône Valley. Its gusts can reach up to 60 km an hour and often trigger storms and rough seas.
The coldest months are December and January (when there can be some frost) but otherwise the winter is mild.
During the summer months the temperature rises but the cooling sea breezes help to keep it at a tolerable level.
