The Herault Department In The Languedoc

heraultIn this sun-drenched corner of the south of France, you'll find sandy beaches lapped by the Mediterranean sea, wild open spaces in the Cevennes hills, monasteries and castles for languedoc sightseeing, and vineyards where you can taste some of the best Languedoc wines around.

The department of Herault covers around 6200 square km and has a population of around 90,000 people, who mainly live in Montpellier, Sete and the town of Beziers - three very different places, each with its own character and charm.

Bordering the Mediterranean is about 60 miles of coastline, which stretches between the hauntingly beautiful region known as the Camargue, and the tree-lined Canal du Midi.

The landscape of Herault starts craggy and beautiful in the southern part of the Massif Central and descends gently until it opens like an amphitheatre onto the Mediterranean coast. With its lakes and saltwater lagoons, gorges and rivers, mountains and beaches, sunny climate and cultural attractions, Herault is a magnet for tourists from all over Europe.

So much so that property in the Herault is of great interest to people looking to buy a holiday home in this part of France. With it's wonderful beaches and excellent communications links, Herault property is very high on people's wish list.

Whether you're looking for a village house with stone walls, exposed wooden beams and a pretty courtyard garden, or a modern villa with landscaped garden and swimming pool, this part of France has something for you.

Property in the Herault can be found for as little as 50,000€ for somewhere very small that needs a great deal of work, and goes up to prices in the millions for some very exclusive wine domains.

One other point of interest is the Milau Bridge which was opened in December 2004 by Jaques Chirac. The Milau Viaduct is at the time of writing this the Worlds Tallest Bridge.
